A wonderful week of listening to others make music - this time the RSCM Adults in Cambridge. Evensong at St. John's College every evening was led by their Director of Music, Andrew Nethsingha, very ably accompanied on the organ by John Challenger, their assistant organist. It was a steep learning curve for those of good parish choir standard, but they rose to the challenge admirably, with highlights being the Clucas responses, Gibbons' Second Service, Stainer's 'How beautiful upon the mountains' and MacMillan's 'A new song'. The choir were divided as to whether it was wise to take Victoria's 'O quam gloriosum' at such a cracking pace, but it certainly filled the high-ceilinged building to spectacular effect.
