Fuelled by Cake

It was good to return to the usual 'Morning Eucharist and Evensong' format this Sunday. The soloist for 'Litany to the Holy Spirit' (Hurford) overslept and only just made it to church in time - the other sopranos took it in turns to hide behind the pillar so they wouldn't be chosen instead. The vicar enjoyed the Solo, Women, Men format to this simple but effective anthem, and it was well-received by members of the congregation also. Sometimes, it seems, it is better to do simple things well. We were well-rewarded for our singing after the service by copious amounts of wedding cake, provided by one of the couples who got married on Saturday, who also happen to be regular members of the church. Much discussion ensued as to what type of liquour went into the cake as it was so moist and delicious (and the deputy organist was seen sneaking off with double helpings).

A smaller group returned for Evensong - I have sung Balfour Gardiner's 'Evening Hymn' many times before, but seemed to struggle with it tonight, I'm not sure why. Perhaps I was all caked out.
