From Purple to Red on Passion Sunday

A change from the regular Purple today, as the red of Passion Sunday came into use. Perhaps because of a reluctance to finally let go of Lent, however, the Director of Music actually spent a good length of time rehearsing with the choir instead of running away to the organ bench. Consequently, we felt well-rehearsed enough to sing 'Lord for thy tender mercy's sake' (Farrant), complete with multi-part 'Amen' at the end. The reader's sermon was all about 'Change' so perhaps that is the sort of change she meant? That and changing to a more peaceful, Lenten style of music, instead of the interminable Rutter? Time will tell....

A quiet Evensong ended the day, with our newest reader proving quite capable of singing the responses (if only he could get the hang of the microphone), and an impassioned sermon straight from the heart. 'God so loved the world' (Stainer) fitted perfectly into this context; we tried very hard to put in all the dynamics, as we had practised.
