All things ragged and beautiful

Lots of daffodils in evidence at the Mothering Sunday Family Communion today. I hope the Bishop of Plymouth was getting commission for his blatant advertising today: 'Have a break, have a KitKat', talking about the various types of relationships people have with their mothers. Perhaps the Church of England could sponsor a different brand in the sermon each week, solving its financial difficulties in double quick time.

The organist (turned pianist today) wisely waited until all the cute babies had gone up to the altar before he asked us to sing the anthem, 'All things bright and beautiful' (Rutter), but I'm afraid we still sounded rather ragged - more like wild daffodils than cultivated ones. (I'm sure the Bishop's beard was looking more ragged than I remember it, as well - perhaps he is hoping to be considered as a fitting successor to the wild-bearded Rowan Williams, soon to be stepping down as Archbishop of Canterbury. http://www.shipoffools.com/features/2012/beard_almighty.html )
