Another weekend away (we shall be forgetting where we belong soon), this time to Llandaff to hear the professionals do their stuff, accompanied by their splendid new Nicholson organ. The Llandaff choristers know how to do simple things well, and I especially enjoyed hearing the Stanford in Bb canticles and Wesley's 'Wash me throughly' (both in the standard choir repertoire but sung with extra beauty and style by well-trained cathedral choristers).
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, our own choir were entertaining the BBC cameramen and sound recorders, taking part in 'Music Nation', a day of singing and instrumental music to celebrate the 2012 Olympics. I just managed to catch the choir on BBC spotlight, singing the first few lines of Rutter's 'For the beauty of the earth', looking very smart in red cassocks and RSCM medals, lined up behind the altar rail.
