Welcome back and welcome in

It was good to be back in our own church again after our Yorkshire holiday. Some of our choir members have also returned from sick leave, so numbers are getting back to normal. Sadly, though, one of our long-standing basses died during the week - he was one of only two remaining choristers from the time I first joined the choir 16 years ago, so it is just as well we have had many newcomers in the intervening time.
It was a day of celebration as we welcomed two new readers to our parish. They seem very friendly and appear to have a lot to offer the church. Our anthem (Robson) contained wise words for people beginning a new, possibly daunting, ministry: 'Lord give me faith, to live from day to day'. After the service, we continued the welcome in true Tavistock style, with piles of delicious food and drink, in the Parish Centre. The vicar said he hoped to acquire two new readers every couple of years until he had a total of 28. So perhaps we could have 26 more parties to celebrate?
