A glorious long weekend in Yorkshire, courtesy of the Friends of Cathedral Music, was a real treat. The mixed choir of Beverley Minster, in such a breathtakingly beautiful building, followed by the charming young people of Ampleforth Abbey (who would have thought of teaching Tallis' Canon in four parts to four year olds?), to the polished professionals of York Minster, made for a weekend of beautiful music, and waistline-stretching Yorkshire fare. We were very impressed by Robert Sharpe, in particular - his dedication and hard work with the boy- and girl-choirs of York Minster has led to one of the most polished, yet natural, sounds we have heard on our Cathedral travels. They even made me enjoy the Leighton responses by the end of the weekend!
