Welcome to the beauty of paradise earth

Rutter's 'For the beauty of the earth' sounded rather appropriate today (Welcome to Church Sunday), as we'd just heard in the sermon all about C.S. Lewis's dwarves, believing they were in a stinky stable when actually they were in a beautiful world. I think our organist must have felt he was in a beautiful world when, after finishing the voluntary (Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor), he was handed some chocolate by the vestry group for his efforts.

We welcomed one of our soprano returners to Evensong, which worked out perfectly as we were singing 'In Paradisum' (Faure), where the sopranos get to sing more than everyone else (especially the altos who have to be careful not to fall asleep).

And now to go on holiday for 3 weeks - let's hope the three altos who have been ill or on holiday recently return in good voice to take my place.
