day off

Never has it been known, in the (almost) 12 years I've been in the choir of this church, for us to have a day off during term time. I'd like to bet it hadn't happened for the previous 100 years, either.
Sunday morning was a said service only, as half the choir disappeared up to Exeter Cathedral for our curate's ordination and the other half nobly stayed in bed. Hearing the Cathedral choir was a real treat (you thought I'd stayed in bed, didn't you?) - we heard them sing Locus Iste (Bruckner), a responsorial Psalm, verses from 119 (Walker), If ye love me (Tallis), the Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei (Caear, Missa Brevis), O sacrum convivium (Tallis).
We returned to the Parish Centre for a slap-up buffet, as is our custom, and then celebrated further as we enjoyed our evening off (coincidentally the ordination coincided with the one Sunday in the month when we don't have evensong). A hearty supper in the pub was a most acceptable alternative.
