The Sleepy Westcountry

A very welcome break on the Isles of Scilly - plenty of boats and not a boat boy in sight. The low-key ambience must have been catching because we returned to a period of church-lite in Creamtealand. The usual anthems were suspended and we instead sang a simple Taize chant, repeated in unison (all, women, men) then a final harmonised verse. I then fell asleep and didn't make evensong at all. Next Sunday there will be no sung services, as a large number of the congregation will be at Lee Abbey in north Devon.
