We always look forward to our visits to Exeter Cathedral. Half of the choir piled into a minibus (surely those tiny seats were meant for children?) to join other choirs from all over Devon, plus the boys and men from the Cathedral choir. There was exactly the right number to fit into the cathedral stalls in the quire. We all sang the Ayleward responses, Stanford in C canticles and 'Give us the wings of faith' (Bullock), with the Cathedral choir singing the Psalm. Those who had attended such festivals before voted it the best for a long time, both for the quality of the singing and for the choice of music. A well-deserved supper of fish and chips, from the local award-winning chippie, was our reward upon return.
