Refresh me throughly

I thoroughly enjoyed having a week off from my own church and instead attended Choral Evensong at Canterbury Cathedral. Listening to the pure tones of their young choristers, singing the Lloyd responses, Wise canticles and Greene's 'Let me know mine end' was very restful and recuperative. Refreshed, I returned this week to sing 'Call to remembrance' (Farrant) at morning Eucharist and 'Wash me throughly' (Wesley) at Evensong. More glorious Lenten music to make this (plus Advent) my favourite time of the year. Why is the church so much better at 'waiting music' than at celebrating the great Festivals?
