All things wild and mysterious

A large soft toy reindeer (or stag, or moose) spent the service sitting on top of one of the choir stalls. Nobody knew why it was there - it didn't feature in the kids' talk or the sermon, and no bereft toddler came to claim it. But it stayed there throughout, without falling off, so we hope he enjoyed himself and might come again. Whoever put him there, presumably as a joke, hasn't let on yet....
Much amusement was caused again by Aled Jones guessing that we would be singing 'If ye love me' (Tallis) as the anthem - his accuracy has been noted for the second time this month; has he been taking sneaky peeks at our music list?

The annual schools' Songs of Praise took place in a full church, with each of the schools in the town providing a favourite song, to a congregation mostly of proud parents and grandparents. As usual, the songs were very varied, from Vivaldi's 'Gloria', through a charming round called 'God so loved the world' to 'Shine Jesus Shine'. The choir also contributed with Rutter's 'All things bright and beautiful', enabling our choir master to show off his piano skills. We were asked to arrive and depart from the choir stalls 'informally' but we don't do informal very well, so (almost) looked like a disciplined choir - which of course we always are. ;)
