It was a toss-up between going to church or seeing Andy Murray lose. Church won, but only just. 'Shine Jesus Shine', in my opinion, wins the 'Strangest Hymn to process in to' competition. The very short anthem, 'O taste and see' (Vaughan Williams), sounded beautiful with the soprano introduction - so we decided to sing it twice. A quick dash out to the car at the end of the service confirmed that most of Murray's hopes were dashed and, by the time I got home, it was all over. We were kept on our toes during Candlemas Festival Evensong, with the new (to us) Rose responses. The first response of the second set caught us out but otherwise, aided by a very competent tenor cantor, the rest were sung well. Ireland in F canticles were again not too well known, but they were sung quietly and competently, with our strongest singing reserved for 'Lift up your heads' (Mathias).
