Blessed omens

I awoke this morning to Aled Jones playing 'Beati Quorum Via' on Radio 2, which must have been some sort of omen. Fortunately, we had an almost full house, including a new soprano who didn't seem too fazed by being thrown in the deep end, as Stanford's 'Beati' requires six parts (SSATBB). It's my favourite anthem and we had several favourable responses from the congregation after the service. I was afraid we would descend into fits of giggles when the young son of one of the altos started making cat noises and aeroplane noises just as we were about to start singing. (Hopefully that wasn't another omen.) But we managed to be very professional and wipe the smirks from our faces for the required length of time. Phew!
