We three wayward kings

After the high of Christmas, it was down to earth with a bump. Combining having had no weekly choir practice, reduced numbers and music we hadn't sung for several years is never a good idea, so staying together for most of the anthem this morning ('From the rising of the sun' - Ouseley) was a minor miracle - I just hope nobody was listening too carefully to the ending.

We therefore worked extra hard to make Festival Evensong a success, and achieved it for most of the service: Sweeney responses, Moeran in D Canticles ('The Moron' according to the vicar) and Psalm 98. 'Three Kings from Persian Lands afar' fared better in the practice - by the service I think the Kings (choral part) had helped themselves to rather too much fermented camel juice and were finding it hard to keep up with the soloist. Fortunately, our long-suffering choir master is well used to conducting several jellyfish on a piece of string and managed to bring us back into line so that we did all end together, give or take half a beat. Hopefully we will be back up to full strength and well-practised again soon.
