I'm singing in the rain

'Be still my soul' (Sibelius) is always a haunting melody, and especially so for Remembrance Day. At least we sang it in the dry, warm church which is more than could be said for the Act of Remembrance by the war memorial -which proved to be the worst weather I have ever experienced for such a service. All our cassocks and surplices had to be hung up to dry around the vestry so they would be wearable again by evensong. Typically, the weather improved during the afternoon, so we arrived at church feeling much drier and happier in order to sing 'Call to remembrance' (Farrant). Our organist has been fitting in extra practice to expertly play Bach's Prelude and Fugue in Eb (St Anne), which is one of my all-time favourites.
