This joyful, yellow Eastertide

It was a very happy Easter. The church, fully bedecked with yellow flowers, was full, with extra chairs at the back. We were shown a new Station of the Cross - the resurrection, and sang 'This joyful Eastertide' (Wood). We then stood listening for about 10 minutes to a lovely organ melody of joyful music as the very long queue of communicants wended its way towards the altar. A delicious Rocky Road confection was available for the large choir (boosted by young people returning home for the holidays) after the service, and Easter Eggs for all. Festival Evensong was also a joyful occasion. The slightly smaller choir confidently sang the Sweeney responses and Brewer's Mag and Nunc. 'Fanfare' (Shaw) wasn't so well known, but fortunately it was short and easily learnt in the pre-service practice. It was lovely to receive genuine thanks from one of the new readers for our contribution - she was used to evensong with 6 people at her previous church, so a full Festival evensong was much appreciated.
