It was good to be back after a very refreshing break. The choir master had decided that it was time for 'Zadok the Priest' (Handel) to have an airing. It sounded rather weak and feeble in the vestry as several members were late arriving. Fortunately, by the time we came to sing in the service we were up to full strength (complete with two altos accompanied by their toddlers) and we were able to give it the appropriate welly. Although I'd originally thought Zadok was not too appropriate for a parish Eucharist, the organist finished the service with Widor's 'Toccata', which went rather well paired with Zadok as a triumphant end to a lovely, quiet, gentle service. You could feel the foundations of the church shake, no doubt registering somewhere on the Richter Scale.
