When I'm cleaning windows

Although it was Sea Sunday and the Beheading of John the Baptist, we had a 'Service of Thanksgiving for the cleaning of the Windows'. This was an excuse to sing all the hymns about brightness and light - 'Light's abode, Celestial Salem', 'All things bright and beautiful', and 'Shine Jesus Shine'. Disappointingly, we didn't sing any George Formby, although the anthem was the appropriate 'Gloria' (Vivaldi). Even the Gospel reading (John 12) fitted the theme: 'While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light'. Sea Sunday got a look in at Evensong, with the old favourite 'Eternal Father, Strong to Save'. The Sweeney responses sounded a little wobbly in places, probably because we weren't concentrating fully; however, that realisation made us focus well for the anthem, 'Give us the Wings of Faith' (Bullock), which consequently sounded much better.
