I love this service! 3 OT readings and psalms, interspersed with prayers (we have to stand for these, I suppose to keep the blood supply moving after all that sitting down); then to the back of the church for the lighting of the fire and putting nails in the shape of a cross into the paschal candle. Singing 'the Light of Christ', 'Thanks be to God' as we process up the aisle, stopping to light our candles and in turn light the candles of those behind. Listening to the 'Exsultet' being sung (this year by the Vicar, the deacon's voice wasn't up to it) by candlelight, and then the glorious sound of the Gloria ringing out as the lights come back on and the candles are extinguished. Renewal of Baptismal vows and a sprinkling of Holy Water by the aspergillum (not very wet this year!), then singing 'This Joyful Eastertide' - for once I didn't think 'Oh no, not this hackneyed thing again'.....
Pity about the cypher on the organ throughout (why does it always have to be a semitone flatter than what we are singing?! - apparently the fault was due to the excessively dry weather, not used to it in our part of the country!)
