Just happened to be enroute from North Devon at the time of the Great Torrington Vicarage Garden Fete, so popped in to try my hand at those old favourites, 'Guess the weight of the hen' and 'lose the golf ball in the bushes'. They have interesting entertainment in Great Torrington: face of the prettiest bitch competition (dog show, thankfully) and a ducking stool (for women priests?!) very popular with hot and sweaty 9 year old boys.
Back home for the Tavistock Carnival in the evening - helping to give out sweets and collect money as our church float 'There was an old woman who lived in a shoe' went slowly around the town. We just got back as the heavens opened, sweetless, happy and with full collecting tins. 'These boots were made for walking, and that's just what they'll do, one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you'.
