Several choir members on holiday today - but do we let that stop us, no we don't! Gave Schubert's 'the Lord is my shepherd' some extra welly to make up for missing bodies. The whole theme of the Eucharist was 'Good Shepherd Sunday' - anyone not noticing this by the end of the service was deaf, blind and daft.

Deanery evensong was the most unusual I had ever been to as it was actually a Deanery Eucharist - I try to avoid two in one day if at all possible. It was very quiet and contemplative, with lots of pauses between items which at first irritated me, then I decided it was actually quite restful. Good to hear Richard Hawkins, bishop of Crediton, preach again after many years. Actually a very similar sermon to this morning - about going away to a 'desert space' to allow yourself time to think, pray and meet with God. Is somebody trying to tell me something?!

One of the best things about Deanery Services is that you meet up with people in the area you know, but who go to different churches, people who have moved away but only a short distance, etc.
