Flowery Festival

What a superb weekend - a church full of floral displays related to proverbs (practice what you preach, at the pulpit; if music be the food of love, at the choirstalls, etc.) interspersed with concerts, recitals and choral services.

Friday's lunchtime organ recital was a treat - a whole hour of enjoyable organ pieces by Franck, Elgar, Haydn, Bruckner, etc. The brass band concert on Saturday, followed by Choir concert in the evening. Stanford in C Mag and Nunc and 'O thou the Central Orb' (Wood) sung by the whole choir, plus 'The Lord is my Shepherd' by Schubert sung by a quartet of choir members. Handbells, solos and piano duet: 'The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba' (Handel).

Back again on the Sunday for morning Eucharist (communion made standing up, because of all the miniature gardens around the altar rail) and 'Lord Give me Faith' (Robson).

Evening Patronal Festival Evensong to round the whole show off: Stanford in Bb, Psalm 150 and 'How Lovely are thy Dwellings' (Brahms).

I do love special occasions, they are the jam between the bread and butter of the ordinary Sundays.
