a very special memorial

On Saturday, a memorial service for one of our tenors, who unfortunately died much too early. We gave him a good send-off, though, with an introit of 'I was glad' (Parry), Eucharist with Sanctus (Faure) and Communion Anthem of Ave Verum (Mozart). A happy service despite the sadness.

Sunday anthems were 'Therefore we before him bending' (Vittoria) in the morning, and 'O for a closer walk with God' (Stanford) in the evening. I wonder how many churches apart from ours sing the Venite during morning Eucharist? If you have to give up Mattins, it's the next best thing.
