Why are there only cream candles on the advent wreath this year? did the shop run out of pink and purple ones, or is there a more secret reason? ;) Advent Sunday is a good time for baptisms and we had two in the morning Eucharist (in addition to several others in the afternoon!)
Sang the Palestrina Matin Responsory in the Morning and the Evening, but in the evening it was candlelit. In addition, the Advent carol service had 7 great Advent hymns, 5 lessons, Advent responsory, and Choir anthems: Sleepers Wake, Bach; Hail Blessed Virgin Mary, Italian, arr. Wood; Joseph and the Angel, Terry; If ye would hear, Dutch; Sans day Carol, Cornish; People look East, Besancon Tune, sung from behind the High Altar. As usual, a wonderful start to the Advent season.
After the service, the now traditional choir party. Loads of food and drink plus two quizzes: one was to match the baby photos to the choristers. Hard but not impossible - I know because I won some chocolates! The second puzzle was harder - work out which fizzy wine was the cheapest and which was the most expensive. And it didn't necessarily follow that the best tasting wine was the most expensive. Interesting that the chorister who has only just turned 18 won this one.....
