And a Happy New Year!

Epiphany, although it didn't feel like it on Sunday, being only the fourth day of the month. Still, we sang as many of the hymns referring to stars and wise men as we could fit in to two services, plus the rather wonderful anthem, 'Three Kings from Persian Lands afar' by Cornelius, in which I become an honorary tenor, and hubby competes against the whole of the rest of the choir who he hopes don't sing too loud in the quiet bits. We sang from the back of the church in the morning and the front of the church in the evening. The evening one sounded better, but probably due to balance, being a smaller choir, rather than for spatial reasons.

The only unsatisfactory part of the service was the descant at the end of 'As with gladness men of old' which sounded rather weak (why do they choose hymns with descants as the offertory hymn, when half the sopranos are scattered around the church taking up the offertory or collection?) We processed out to Wagner's 'The Pilgrim's Chorus' - smooth or what?
