Arrived in the choir vestry with chilblains on my chilblains after an exciting journey in an ice-skating car.
Snuggled together for warmth, we practised around the single radiator and sucked on red hot throat sweets, fortified with eucalyptus until it was time to start the service. What wimps! Actually the inside of the church wasn't too cold, you couldn't even see our breath. The sopranos were on top form in the descant snippets, no full descants today. Anthem was 'How brightly beams the morning star' (harmony JS Bach, because it is more twiddly than the Mendelssohn version). Today was the first day I have ever heard the word 'bums' mentioned from the pulpit, and it was mentioned twice! A sure sign that the CofE is reaching a new low, if not hitting rock-bottom ;) :D
A special hello to all our readers in sunny Australia (incl. Nunc and Rowen :)) who cannot imagine what frost looks like at the moment, I expect.....
