Low Turnout Sunday

Half-term. Nuff said. Always seems to decimate the top line. Still we managed to make the anthem ('Mine eyes for beauty pine', Howells) and the other choral items sound not too weak and watery. At least there was lots of room at the altar rail, not the usual squash to fit us all in at once. Anyone not there missed the excellent sermon on the Transfiguration, by Canon Michael Ridley, recently retired to the area. A pity he couldn't have conjured up a few extra transfigured choristers.

At evensong, somebody got up and walked out. I hate it when they do that - why? was our singing that bad? or had they just remembered they left the car lights on? Or maybe they were there in the morning and didn't want to hear the same anthem repeated.

Colds and illness, holidays in far-off places: hopefully the choir will be returned to full strength by next week, revitalised by piles of steaming hot pancakes at the Pancake and Quiz Evening on Tuesday.
