Sudden panic in the vestry today - the Gospel Acclamation, which has been used ever since Ash Wednesday - had slipped everyone's memory (shows how much we rely on the music). Fortunately, the music was duly found and the choir prop was restored. How do the Vienna Boys' Choir manage?
Very full church today as one of the local prep schools was in attendance, all in shorts on a bitterly cold, wet day - redolent of all schools 40 years ago. No wonder boys' voices didn't break early in the olden days.....
The anthem in the morning was 'Lord for thy tender mercies' sake', Hilton. It was strange singing a capella as we hadn't done so for several weeks, but appropriate for Lent. Another appropriate anthem for Lent at Evensong - this time accompanied by the organ - 'Wash me throughly', Wesley. I love the pathos of Lenten music!
