Rogation Sunday

Went up to Exeter Cathedral on Saturday to sing Evensong in the Cathedral - part of the RSCM area choir., as the girls who usually sing on Saturdays were singing at Wells Cathedral. Only just over an hour to get used to singing the music together - fortunately there were enough people who knew the works already to carry those who were sight-reading. Smith responses, canticles: Noble in B minor, Anthem: Let all the world, by Vaughan Williams. Some interesting moments when we discovered there were different versions of the Responses and the canticles, but we sang away, each from our own copies, and let God sort out the harmonies!

Sunday morning: Strange, I never heard the word 'Rogation' mentioned once. In fact it completely passed me by. What happens when you attend a town church, I suppose. Anthem - if ye love me, Tallis. Sung very gently and in a relaxed manner, from the back of the church. It sounded 'almost' like the Cathedral Choir would have sung it, rather than our usual 'Enthusiastic Parish Church' manner.

I was going to leave this blog entry until the Ascension Day service. But now I am ill and have had to miss it.....
