Sangria Sunday

It was hard to concentrate during the morning Eucharist knowing we had a party to go to, and hard to concentrate during Evensong as we had just come back from the party. To be fair, it was due to be held on Saturday, but too many people with other commitments forced the change.

Teach me O Lord, by Attwood, was sung beautifully throughout, apart from a very strange whoop just at the end - getting into the party spirit a little early, maybe?

The party, as with all choir 'do's was great fun, full of laughter and great company. Oh, and the odd plate of food and wine glass here and there ;) A pity a rogue shower of rain sent everyone fleeing for cover, but even more excuse to tuck in to the wonderful spread.... No ponds for the unwary youngsters to fall into at this house, but plenty of bushes for balls to get lost in by would-be Wimbledon stars. Caring older choir members will be covered in scratches for weeks.

It was a pleasure to sing Brewer's Jubilate at evensong - partly because it is just such a fun setting to sing, and partly because, with the demise of Mattins, we do not often get the chance to sing the Jubilate at all. Fortunately, it was a fairly full choir, so we were able to give it lots of welly (aided by the after-effects of the Sangria, no doubt).
