What a difference - today's service was so much brighter. The little ones went out to what is now known as 'Godly Play' (as opposed to Ungodly Play which may be seen in playgrounds up and down the land the other days of the week, presumably ;) ) and we let rip with a visiting soprano providing even more ringing top notes and buoyant confidence.
'Teach me O Lord the way of thy statutes', by Attwood, was almost sabotaged by one of the Basses doing a flying leap as he tripped over the mat at the back of church just as we were about to start - cue all the choristers falling over like skittles...... - but at least it put a huge smile on the choirmaster's face while we were singing, and brightened our tone considerably.
The vicar was glad to be back after his clergy jolly by the seaside, and realised he loved us all.... really...... ;) He brought back a rallying message in the face of difficult times from Rowan Williams, which might have explained all the extra confidence: 'I have seen the church and it works!'
