Epiphany already?! but it's only the 2nd of January...... However, there were a lot more people in church than there will be Thursday and we could light all the candles, which I love! A heartstopping moment as the plaster kings were carried down from the altar to the crib - in rather a gung-ho manner by one of the three children chosen. But all was well and the gift-bearers were safely installed.
Our sole cold-and-holiday-surviving brave tenor battled out his line in anthem, 'From the rising of the sun' (Gore Ouseley) and one of the basses was commandeered at the last minute to sing the Peruvian Gloria. Meanwhile, our main tenor sat mute in the congregation, apart from a few feeble coughs and splutters. He will be welcomed back next week with great relief.
Evensong was a quiet affair, with a repeat of this morning's anthem - fortunately we still had a tenor. We learnt that our temporary placement trainee priest was to arrive soon, going by the name of Mrs. French. Unfortunately not Dawn French, but we can't have everything.....
