The lovely Candlemas service in the morning, but not many children there to take part as I expect they would all be coming to the evening service instead. In case anyone wasn't sure of the festival, the first hymn made it blindingly clear: "When candles are lighted on Candlemas Day the dark is behind us, and spring's on the way...". Fortunately we didn't have to sing all 13 verses!
The anthem was 'Here O my Lord' by Whitlock, where we observed the dynamics, had a soaring top line, and almost all of us didn't run out of breath on the last phrase.......

A packed church in the evening for the Schools' Songs of Praise. Several more thoughtful contributions this year - fewer wriggly worms and more peace and love to all mankind. Perhaps the recent tsunami event has focussed people's minds on more solemn assemblies this term. It made a change to sing to an orchestral accompaniment - two chamber orchestras of local teenagers - rather than the usual organ.
