I don't normally go to (our) church in the holidays, but I did just pop back briefly to sing at the wedding of a former chorister. Former choristers, like present choristers, should 'know' that they are not allowed to get married in August, but lurve does funny things to people and makes them forgetful, I suppose. Anyway, it was also a good chance to get to hear the funny little 'organ in a cupboard' which we have borrowed from Cathedral Organs while our own rather larger version is being repaired. And even funnier to see the organist bouncing up and down on the little integral stool while he played. It reminded me of the organ in the Church of Fools ;)
We sang four hymns, because you have to have lots of hymns at a chorister's wedding, including the old choir staple, Angel Voices Ever Singing. Unusually, the organist played his twiddly bit during the signing of the register BEFORE the choir sang, to give the Bride chance to come out and hear some of it. And to join in, no doubt, for she had requested Bach's 'Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring' out of pure nostalgia, as we used to churn that out at every single wedding when it used to be trebles / top line for weddings only.
Now, back to my holiday....... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
