Spring has sprung

How could I be so busy as to forget to update my wiblog? The two Sundays didn't pass without incident, as our newly returned junior chorister (now rather more senior and singing Alto) put her nursing practice to the test caring for one of the sopranos who fainted near the beginning of the service. Fortunately, by the time we sang the anthem, 'Magnificat in B Minor' (Noble) - for it was Mothering Sunday - she had been carted off in an ambulance and the trusty alto was able to rejoin us. We choristers always get our priorities right.....
'God so loved the World' (Stainer) sounded beautiful in a quiet church at Evensong.

Spring has come at last, and about time too, as it is already Passiontide. Our Director of Music and several members of the choir were off on a jolly to Hereford Cathedral, so we 'sang something simple' such as is appropriate with reduced numbers. 'O sacred head, sore wounded' was sung to an easier harmony than we were used to, with a gentle organ accompaniment.
By the evening our trusty director had returned but there were still only five sopranos. We made a brave attempt at 'Turn thy face from our sins' (Attwood) and the organist kindly made a few 'deliberate' mistakes of his own during the psalm in order to make light of other imperfections. At least he had the excuse of a mad dash back from Hereford and, doubtless, no time for tea.
