I have spent the last couple of days dipping in and out of the delightful world of Miss Marple! I've long been a fan of Agatha Christie and until Geraldine McEwan would always have stated Margaret Rutherford as my favourite Jane Marple. But now Ms McEwan has topped the poll - and can carry the character off even when surrounded by co-stars such as Harry Enfield and Mavis from Coronation Street!
So last night I was watching 'The Moving Finger' with James D'Arcy playing the charming, troubled Marple side-kick... and what a line he delivers at the end to the young woman he's falling for - one of those 'if only in the real world' corkers!
"Because I'm absolutely sure you see, quite quite certain that... to look after you, to make you happy and keep you from harm is now the purpose of my life..."
Hmmm, that can get put in the 'Haha... if only!' box with the Proclaimers' '500 miles' and most film endings starring Tom Hanks!
