Last week I spent a lot of time packing up into boxes our lives in OldHomeTown so we could move them all to our new place in NewHomeTown. While this was happening I also did a fair bit of driving between OldHomeTown and NewHomeTown to make sure all the painting got done.
Then we moved and I started pleating and putting up a lot of curtains and (started) unpacking all the boxes (I haven't got very far with the boxes yet!).
This week will mainly involve the boxes and a bit more exploring (I like exploring a lot).
While I do all this I will keep having my conversations with God and make little plans of action* for when I start my new vicaring job so it doesn't take me too much by surprise when the day arrives.
When all the boxes are done and home looks and feels a bit more normal (for a place where you keep walking into the downstairs loo instead of the kitchen because the doors aren't in the same place as your brain tells you they should be) I will do a bit more focused talking to God and reading some stuff in the Bible (I'll do that bit before the boxes are empty too) and read some stuff by other people who have talked to God a lot and probably done some vicaring, and maybe some more stuff by some clever theological types. I will also be hoping that God has something (quite a lot) to say to me about what he's up to over here and what he wants me to do first (in the meantime, see 'little plans of action').
A bit after that I'll start vicaring here when I will just trust God - he's seems to know what he's doing and also seems to be able to make use of ordinary little bods like me who want people to know how much he loves them and that taking notice of God each day is how we were invented.
I hope God likes The Plan.
*get to know the people; love the people; help the people to love the other people (because God said so); talk to the people about God and talk to God with the people, think together about what it means to be (some) of the people of God in our place; encourage all to live with reference to God... etc etc
Oh, and I forgot to mention the cups of tea... there will be lots of cups of tea!
