We want peace

In the event, we registered our home address as the site of a candlelit vigil. We had emailed our vicar about the worldwide vigil, and he emailed back that the churches in the town where our church is would be open this afternoon for prayer. Sadly, when we tried to open the door of our church, having called in on our way home from granny's, the door was locked. So, our vigil was a quiet, family affair (first born has started calling for family hugs, where we hug around a table).

This morning, we attended the church which Ian White goes to!!!! Quite a traditional Church of Scotland service, with all its strengths and weaknesses. As Ian White said to us, there is a need for something complementary. He is organising a youth band, and next week will be doing an informal Sunday evening service. Would be nice to go, but it's too far from home, with school, nursery, and work the next day.

Yesterday, spent much of the day trying to set up an internet connection for my brother. Over the past couple of weeks, I've been setting up granny's old computer so that he can use it, but the ISP we've chosen requires that registering for the service be done from the phone line which will be used for access. So we all paid a visit (granny, myself, wife, first and second born). I think that it was all a bit much for my brother. After a somewhat tense day, however, we managed what we'd set out to do. We had a nice lunch in a child-friendly eating place just by the airport which serves the city where my brother lives.

I've not been well. I guess that whatever afflicted second born last week transferred itself to me. I even went to see the doctor on Friday, offering the self-diagnosis that, since second born had required antibiotics, then perhaps so would I. Doctor rather haughtily replied that perhaps second born hadn't really needed antibiotics, and proceeded to proclaim that whatever I had was viral. I felt suitably humiliated. (But, please note, this was the doctor who sent second born home - two days later, we took him to another doctor, who told us to go as quickly as we could to hospital, because he had pneumonia ...)
