I was thinking yesterday of the aftermath of September 11, when Bill Clinton walked up to a BBC reporter, and said how much he appreciated the way the British had shown their support in a difficult time. But what is happening now seems to me, in my ignorance, to be out of all proportion. When the UN was unwilling to authorise the use of force, surely the right thing to have done was to have said to the UN - OK, it's your call; the consequences are your responsibility. Now that the USA and the UK have taken it upon themselves to sort out the matter, who takes the consequences?
Here, spring seems to be trying to arrive. There was frost on the ground this morning, but now it's almost warm, though hazy.
