Round the coffee table this morning, there appeared to be general consensus that we should not be going to war with Iraq. Then, my colleague, clearly upset, said that it was a good thing he didn't wear his American tee-shirt to work to-day. The editorial in to-day's Scotsman calls it "a war worth fighting", or words to that effect.

Is a war ever worth fighting? If we believe that we have the right to topple the tyrant Saddam Hussein, what are we to do about Robert Mugabe, who has retained power on the basis of an election which observers considered to be unfair? Whose side are we on? Who are 'we', anyway? As I turned a corner on my way to work, a lone protester held a placard saying "Not in My Name".
