How do you keep a diary going?
A colleague is thinking of buying a PalmTop, and is asking my advice. Of course, it is tempting to project my own desires, and advise him to buy the device I would buy, if only I had the money to spend. But I'm beginning to think that he would be better to buy something relatively inexpensive, to see how well he adapts to using a PDA which doesn't have a keyboard (his current device is a Psion).
My own PalmTop came in handy last night, when I couldn't get to sleep. I composed something to go on the fish.co.uk bulletin board, which I was able to copy and paste in when I got to work this morning. It meant that I could quieten my mind, having put the words down somewhere, less disruptively than by starting up the computer downstairs. In fact, the time spent awake was well used. I read a chapter of David Lodge's "How far can you go", which I am enjoying; listened to an entire Bruckner symphony on Radio 3's "Through the night" (I'm sure that another hyperlink is possible - maybe another time); had a quiet time, which I hadn't been able to do in the morning; and composed the above item. And, eventually, I went back to sleep.
