Thus my son greeted me when I returned from last night's meeting at daughter's school. I think that he was upset because I sneaked out without saying anything. I avoided a problem as I left, only to be confronted with a worse one as I returned. The meeting was interesting, although in the end didn't really apply to us. There is a plan afoot (good word, in the circumstances) to start a 'walking bus'. But we live about 200 m from the school.
Yesterday, as I was eating my breakfast in the staff/student canteen, I looked out the window and saw what I guessed to be a military transport 'plane approaching Edinburgh Airport. To-day's Metro has confirmed that a soldier was brought back from the Middle East to Edinburgh in a C-17 jet. A strange thought has occurred to me. Until then, my entire experience of this war has been through television, radio, newspapers, and the internet. This was the first time that something out-of-the ordinary has happened in my direct experience, as a direct consequence of what is happening out there.
