A disaster, and an answer to prayer

First, the disaster. A few months ago, I set up a computer for my brother to connect to the Internet. I started with a pay-as-you go connection, then set up an anytime connection, paying so much per month. I didn't remove the pay-as-you-go connection, but made the anytime the default (as I thought). But granny, who pays brother's phone bill, phoned up anxiously to enquire why brother had such a large phone bill. It turns out that the pay-as-you-go number is being dialled, not the anytime. I managed to phone brother, and talk him through the removal of the offending pay-as-you go connection, so things should now be ok, but a considerable amount of money has been spent needlessly.

A lesson for me. I did consider removing the pay-as-you-go connection at the time, but left the computer in the state I would have preferred for myself, with the pay-as-you-go connection there, as a backup. When the building is finished, take away the scaffolding.

And the answer to prayer. I woke up this morning with a sore throat. In fact, it's been around for a day or so, but this morning it was a real problem. Daughter and I had been invited to celebrate Fathers' Day by making pizzas, by a charity which helps the families of children with cancer. If a child is receiving chemotherapy, it means that his or her immune system is compromised, and any infection necessitates a trip to the hospital, and immediate treatment with antibiotics. So daddy's sore throat was not to be shared.

We phoned a friend, who happens to be daughter's godfather. Although it was short notice, he said, "yes". Daughter and I would still travel into town in the bus, and meet up with our friend. Before we left, son woke up, and wanted to come along. If it had been the original plan, he would have had to stay at home - there wouldn't have been room. But I realised that son and I could do our own thing in the city, while daughter and her godfather made pizzas. So we did. I let slip, at the last minute, that I was thinking of taking son to McDonalds for breakfast, and was told that I mustn't. It would be unfair. So son and I had breakfast in Burger King.
