For the duration of my drive yesterday from where I work to where I live, Siegfried was forging Nothung (see, for example A First-Timer's Guide to Wagner's Ring), to the accompaniment of music which continually intensified. He still hadn't finished when I parked outside our local Co-op. My task was to purchase a puppy dog (toy, I hasten to add), with the aid of some stamps which conferred £10 off. These puppy dogs are in short supply (the past three days have been blighted because the one that daughter wanted wasn't available on Saturday). Could I remain in the car until the music had reached its resolution?

I thought that I'd better not. If someone else managed to grab the last puppy, I couldn't have forgiven myself. As it turned out, the puppy daughter wanted wasn't there, in fact, hadn't been delivered. Thursday, I'm told.
