Nessa, your comment is spot-on. Of course, if I had been faced with the choice of composing my own letter, or doing nothing, I might have chosen the latter. But it is, I am sure, the quality of the action which matters, not the quantity.

If I dare go on, I would say that my problem with all this is that my own views in this matter are very much second-hand. I am not a great traveller. I have not seen for myself what is happening in countries dsiadvantaged by the present trade rules. I read what, for example, Christian Aid publishes, and echo - that's not fair - but I don't know whether I have the conviction to act upon what I feel.

I have to say again, that the result of what has happened has been to the good. I hope that I shall sit down, in the near future, and write to my MP the letter which I probably should have written in the first place, being honest about my political naivete, but letting her know that at least one (and I now know that there are a few more, considerably more thoughtful and eloquent than I) of her constituents feels that this is a matter where we must try to change things for the better.
