On Friday, I took daughter to Sick Kids for her MRI. Everything went smoothly. It was a big step for me, crossing the threshold again, daughter once more occupying a bed in a ward. All that we believed to belong in the past has suddenly returned to the present. The playleader recognised daughter immediately. We slipped easily into the familiar routine. At one point in the afternoon, I recognised the face of a parent whom I remember from daughter's previous time in hospital, and he recognised me. I don't think that we've ever spoken.

Our doctor spoke to us briefly after the scan, to say that she would be in touch on Monday. She hadn't, then, seen the results. The radiographer said to me, as I left the MRI room with daughter, that this time they had got a good picture. The previous time we saw her, she'd been giving daughter a row (gently) for not lying still.

Last night and to-day, daughter is on a sleepover. Son wasn't too happy at not being invited, and I think that he misses his sister, but it's also been good to have time with him. He's much quieter than his sister.
