Why

Why would anyone take 365 pictures of themselves, one a day for a year, and publish them on the internet? Why, indeed?

I have to be honest - I'm having difficulty coming up with an answer which makes sense, even to myself. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Other people were doing it. Back in July of last year, when I started, my confidence was low. I had just been signed off work because of stress. I felt that this was something I could do. A challenge.

Why do I blog? I've always liked the idea of keeping a diary. I enjoy setting something down - closing the day - even a bad day. A picture, they say, is worth a thousand words. So taking a picture a day is an extension of blogging. And including myself in the picture is a way of saying - I was there! If you go through your holiday snaps, who is the one person conspicuous by their absence? Yourself, of course!

It hasn't worked out as I anticipated. I intended that the majority of the pictures would be scenes, with me in the middle distance. But there is seldom the opportunity to set things up so that I can be further than an arm's length from the camera.

And I am a willing model. I enjoy taking pictures of people, but am uncomfortable asking people to pose for me.

All that said, I shall be glad when it's over ...
