A perfect birthday

Indeed, Karin, thanks for the greeting. Without getting too arithmetical, I'm calling this the perfect birthday because it's the number of perfection squared. On the other hand, it comes with imperfect timing. Too much else is happening for my day to receive much recognition - which makes it all the more welcome to be remembered.

We had a visit (on the ward) yesterday from the playleader, who demonstrated using a doll the procedure which daughter will undergo on Thursday morning. The aim is to make a perspex mask, which will fit her face precisely, holding her head in just the right position to receive the dose of radiation in just the right place each time. But first they must make a plaster impression of her face, using, in succession, moisturising cream, pieces of clingfilm, and strips of gauze impregnated with plaster. Only her nostrils and her mouth will remain uncovered for the first stage, but I believe that the mask will have cutouts for her eyes.

But yesterday daughter received some compensation for her trauma - an electronic kitten and a Care Bear, while I made an effort to include son with a Kid K'NEX set. But he still noticed that his sister was getting two things, while he was only getting one. I think, though, that they're happy with what they've received.
